Ramona Marx – Splenectomy: Hemel Hempstead, Punk quartet Ramona Marx release their anticipated debut EP ‘Splenectomy’.
Having built a reputation for their explosive, expressive sound and raucous live shows, the band continues to carve out a space in the UK’s underground punk scene.
Released following the striking music video for ‘Seek The Day’, created in collaboration with acclaimed videographer Adam Docker (known for his work with Alice in Chains and other major artists), the new EP showcases some of the band’s best work to date. Produced by the acclaimed Erik Miles (Soft Play, Baby Dave – Isaac Holman, Kate Nash, Lady Bird, and Hotwax), the 4 track EP captures the raw intensity of Ramona Marx’s live performances while highlighting their evolving musical prowess and pointed social and political commentary.
Showcasing a driving sense of energy with tight, racing drums, explosive distorted guitar tones and deep bass, the band create sonic explosions of intense and dynamic instrumentation under the central, visceral, shouted vocals. With moments which showcase impressive and inventive musicianship and others which focus on creating an angst ridden, vexed tone, the band’s sound is at once messy and urgent whilst retaining a tight and pointed sense of direction.

Speaking about the EP, the band explain: “Splenectomy – the surgical removal of the spleen. Inspired by Sam’s sudden ruptured spleen back in February. ‘Splenectomy’ is a removal of spite.
Pent up anger and hate consumes and devours. This EP is us in our most naked form. We want to surgically remove this spite and serve it up to you on a cold and bitter plate. Our first extended play and our best recordings yet “Splenectomy” represents a new chapter in Ramona Marx. Notably it was recorded and produced by Erik Miles at the Forum Recording studios, who has worked with the likes of Soft Play and Kate Nash’.”
Building a growing momentum since their debut in 2019, Ramona Marx has a growing repertoire of previous success. Having gained placements across Spotify editorial playlists including All New Rock, Fresh Finds Rock, and Emerging Punk, the band have been critically acclaimed across the likes of Earmilk, Louder Than War, The Punk Site, BBC Introducing and Clout. Having opened for renowned acts including The Professionals, Panic Shack, Grandma’s House, Blackwaters, Night Flight, and Sheafs, the band has also played a number of UK festivals including PennFest and Bish Bash Fest.
The ‘Splenectomy’ EP was recorded at the Forum recording studio in Kent and features four tracks that delve into the harsh realities of modern life. The band’s frontman describes the EP as a “metaphor for the rigged game of life, where those in power decide who wins and who loses.”
