Nell Mescal makes a striking return with her latest single Carried Away, out now with an accompanying music video. This marks her first release since signing with Atlantic Records and the first track from her recent writing sessions in Brooklyn.
Produced by Philip Weinrobe, known for his work with Adrianne Lenker and Billie Marten, Carried Away explores the emotional weight of a one-sided relationship. “It’s a song about asking for reassurance from someone you’re in a complicated relationship with and being let down,” Nell shares. “Instead of saying they love you back, they just say they got carried away.”
The recording process brought a fresh sense of collaboration. What started as a simple demo quickly evolved in the studio. “I played it solo with just a guitar for the band. After one run-through, everyone joined in,” she recalls. “Philip had incredible ideas. At one point, the band looped a section over and over while I rewrote lyrics in real time. That moment gave the track a whole new life.”
Following a sold-out acoustic tour, Nell has kept up a busy performance schedule. She recently played at Somerset House’s Summer Sessions and Scotland’s TRNSMT Festival. More appearances are coming at the Come Together Festival, Reading and Leeds, and Sheffield’s Rock N Roll Circus. A full UK tour is scheduled for late 2025.
Carried Away signals a new chapter for Nell Mescal — one filled with clarity, confidence, and creative depth.
