The emotions are so strong, much stronger than people often realize. For a long time, I thought I had to be perfect to be loved, perfect for a boy to like me.”

The creation of Between the Lines became both a challenge and a healing process. Revisiting the past meant facing memories she had tried to forget. “It felt like almost three years of my life were a fever dream. I needed distance before I could write about it,” she reflects. The studio turned into a safe space for release, where emotional breakdowns led to breakthroughs. “It was tough to relive it all, but at the same time healing. I grew while writing and singing about what I went through.”

Musically, the EP feels like reading a diary from start to finish. It begins in confusion and heartbreak, then slowly finds clarity and strength. The final track, Goddess, is both a personal victory and a universal statement. “It’s not about me being a goddess. It’s about every woman deserving to feel like one.”

Working with her brother, who produced most of the EP, and songwriter Kristine Willassen, MARI found a creative space built on trust and honesty. Together they shaped a sound that blends modern pop with emotional depth, allowing MARI to step confidently into her voice as both a writer and performer.
