Mother-daughter Afro/Latina country duo, HuneyFire, have released their energetic new single, “Gonna Live (How I Wanna Live).” It is available at all major digital retailers at this link.
“Gonna Live (How I Wanna Live)” captures the feeling of breaking free from other people’s expectations. With its catchy beat and danceable vibe, the track shows how life can sometimes feel like a pressure cooker, with everyone trying to tell others how to live. The lyrics remind the listener that at the end of the day, it is your life to live, and you should do it your way.
“Up real early coffee shower in the gym
Two stepping my way to how I wanna live
Many people say I’m crazy because I follow my rules
Out here happy doing what I wanna do
Two pennies in my pocket, a cowgirl hat and my cowgirl boots
Not a soul on earth can stop me, I’m gonna sing this chorus with you now sing it with me
Oh, oh
I’m gonna live how I wanna live
Oh, oh
I’m gonna live how I wanna live”
“This song was written from personal experience,” says Cheaza Figueroa. “It is all about embracing your true self and having a blast while doing it. Perfect for anyone ready to shake off the pressure and dance to the rhythm of their own dreams!”
“Gonna Live (How I Wanna Live)” was written and produced by Cheaza Figueroa, and features Figueroa and daughter Marri Nevarez-Barlow on powerful lead vocals and harmonies, Caitlin Evanson on fiddle, Denny Mishler on electric guitar and bass guitar, and Michael Vattima on drums. It was recorded engineered, mixed, and mastered by Hugo Castillo at Mir Records Production Studio in Las Vegas, NV.

ABOUT HUNEYFIRE:
The legacy of HuneyFire’s family musical history courses through their bloodlines. Cheaza Figueroa grew up following in the footsteps of a big-time show business entertainer. Her mother, Stonye Figueroa aka Barbara Cook, was an integral part of the legendary Ikette’s, the electrifying backing vocalists and dancers for The Ike and Tina Turner Revue. Among other dizzying career accolades, she was a part of the group’s powerhouse historic performance of “Proud Mary” captured in their debut appearance on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show.’
Daughter, Marri Nevarez-Barlow, also claims musical royalty in her bloodline; her father, Alfred Nevarez, is a founding member of the pop vocal group, All-4-One, best known for their mega-hits, “I Swear,” “So Much in Love” and “I Can Love You Like That.”
The duo began singing together in 2011 and founded HuneyFire in March of 2021. They recently completed writing and recording their debut English album, with a bonus Spanish track.
