Emerging Sydney-based artist Giddy returns with her most poignant release yet, “kintsugi” a tender, soul-searching single that transforms heartbreak into something quietly radiant. Inspired by the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, “kintsugi” embraces life’s fractures as part of its beauty, tracing the delicate lines where pain gives way to strength.
At its core, “kintsugi” is a meditation on breaking and mending, on the light we discover in our darkest hours, and the light we offer others when they need it most. With gentle instrumentation and emotionally rich lyricism, giddy crafts a soundscape that feels intimate yet expansive, fragile yet resolute.
Drawing comparisons to the poetic intimacy of Sufjan Stevens, the timeless authenticity of Joan Baez, and the soul-baring melodies of Laura Marling, giddy’s artistry is both tender and fiercely human. Her voice carries a quiet power, the kind that does not demand attention but holds it completely.
Before stepping fully into music, giddy worked as a refugee lawyer, an experience that profoundly shaped her worldview and deepened her compassion. That lived understanding of displacement, resilience, and hope echoes through her songwriting. Her transition from advocate in the courtroom to storyteller in song feels less like a career change and more like a natural evolution, a continuation of giving voice to the unheard.
Creating from Gadigal land in Sydney, NSW, giddy rekindled her artistic spirit with a ukulele affectionately named “Lorien.” Through it, she began transforming her poetry into song, crafting melodies that feel handwritten, heartfelt, and deeply personal. Every note in “kintsugi” carries that handcrafted sincerity.
Thoughtful yet radio-ready, delicate yet resonant, “kintsugi” positions giddy as a rising voice in contemporary folk, one capable of soundtracking moments of healing, reflection, and connection across the globe.
With “kintsugi,” giddy does not just sing about resilience, she embodies it. And in doing so, she offers listeners something rare, permission to be imperfect, and hope that even the cracks can shine.
About kintsugi
I’m a singer-songwriter born and raised on the land of the Gadigal people in Sydney, Australia. To be honest, it felt surreal to type that out just now, because just a few years ago I didn’t sing at all – no, not even in the shower! I grew up creative – I wrote poems, took photos, danced and designed fashion collections – but I’d gradually lost touch with it as I morphed into an overworked refugee lawyer.
My mum’s been a singer for decades, but life had got in the way for her too. One mother’s day, I took her along to a singing class, to get her back in the swing. To my surprise, it did something profound for me too. I felt connected to my body for the first time in years. And being bad at something new gave me the chance to be curious and playful, in a way I’d long missed. I bought a ukulele (her name is Lorien :), figured out how to pluck out a tune, rediscovered poetry as songwriting and – swallowing my terror – tiptoed from my bedroom to the stage. These days I play regularly a
