Gabby Rivers returns with clarity and conviction on her new EP What Is the Problem?, released on 5 February. The grunge-pop riser from Suffolk has spent recent years building momentum across the UK’s live circuit, and this latest release captures a clear shift toward a bolder, guitar-led identity.
The seven-track EP is packed with distorted bass, gritty textures, and fuzz-soaked guitars, blending the attitude of grunge with the immediacy of garage rock. Gabby’s sharp melodic instincts remain front and center, while her lyrics cut deeper than ever, tackling disillusionment, self-discovery, and emotional fallout. Tracks like Dig Me burst with youthful urgency, while Lipstick Karma unfolds slowly, letting tension simmer before it breaks. Throughout the record, Gabby sounds confident, restless, and creatively recharged.
The EP was born from a period of reflection. After stepping back from releases and live shows in 2024, Gabby used the time to write extensively and reconnect with the artists who inspired her growing up. Personal betrayals and difficult relationships shaped the emotional core of the project, turning pain into something purposeful.
Already backed by BBC Radio, major publications, and festival stages including Reading and Leeds and Latitude, Gabby Rivers continues her ascent with What Is the Problem?, a release that firmly establishes her as a powerful new force in UK alternative music.
