Having crafted a unique blend of folk, pop, and indie influences shaped by his multicultural experiences, Flo has captivated audiences with his heartfelt lyrics and emotionally charged performances.

In this interview, we dive into his musical journey, his creative process, and the challenges he has faced along the way as an indie artist. Join us as Flo Chase shares his story, offering insights into his sound, his inspirations, and his hopes for the future.

How would you describe your unique style and sound as an artist? What sets you apart from other musicians?

I guess all of us artists draw inspiration from many different sources which all makes us unique in a way. I believe that the wide range of music I grew up listening to as well as my experience living in different cultures definitely shaped my current sound. Having a French background growing up on a small island in the South Pacific ‘New-Caledonia’ being highly influenced by roots reggae to then moving to Australia and growing into folk music and adapting to a new way of life definitely played a huge part in my development as an artis and individual.

Could you share some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as an indie musician and how you overcame them?

I would say managing my time and doing it all as well as funding it all on my own. There’s no really downtime as an indie musician as when you’re not playing live you’re either writing more songs, working on marketing and creating assets or learning about new ways to promote and get the music heard. You’re basically doing it all on your own which can definitely be a lot and taxing at times.

What is your creative process like? How do you approach songwriting and composing music?

I usually find myself most inspired during the night, and most of my songs are written, either late evenings, or in the early morning hours. Most of my writing usually starts either with me plucking chords on my guitar or sitting at the piano. It is very rarely that I find myself starting with lyrics; the music and feeling comes first, then melody followed by lyrics.

Are there any particular themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music? What inspires your lyrics?

The goal is most definitely to spread joy and positivity.

What are your long-term goals as an indie musician? Where do you see yourself and your music in the next few years?

The major long-term goal would be to play large amphitheaters, or stadium shows as well as write music for other indie artists and help them in any way I possibly can. Ideally, I see myself touring the world playing shows and growing as a songwriter and performer.

Thank you,
