Reggae has always had a special ability to transform familiar songs without taking away what made them powerful in the first place. It can slow a moment down, give it a different pulse, and allow emotions to breathe in a new way. That is exactly what GrooveGalore MuziK brings to “Love & Hate,” featuring KASTICK and Valentino Music, a reggae-rock interpretation of Michael Kiwanuka’s powerful song.

Recorded in Montego Bay, Jamaica, the track immediately carries the atmosphere of its surroundings. Reggae rhythms sit comfortably alongside scouring guitar tones and rock energy, creating a sound that feels warm but never too comfortable. There is movement in the arrangement, but the production never loses sight of the emotional center of the song.

KASTICK’s vocals are one of the strongest elements of the recording. His soulful delivery gives the song a lived-in quality, bringing the weight of the lyrics forward without forcing the emotion. His experience as a drummer and Music Director for Big Mountain, as well as his work with Maxi Priest, is important to the character of this release. You can hear that understanding of rhythm in the way the performance breathes. It feels played by musicians who understand reggae not simply as a genre, but as a musical language.

Valentino Music also helps shape the track into a convincing reggae-rock crossover, while the appearance of Rajive Jahred Gordon of UB40 on horns and production adds another meaningful connection to reggae’s international history. His contribution gives the recording another layer without taking attention away from KASTICK’s performance.

What makes GrooveGalore MuziK particularly interesting is the experience behind the name. Founded by Paul KasticK, the project grows from decades of work as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and drummer. His career includes work with Grammy-winning artist Maxi Priest, California reggae group Big Mountain, and Diana King, alongside touring experience with artists including Enigma, Shaggy, Tessanne Chin, and Ki-Mani Marley.

That background gives “Love & Hate” credibility. This is not a reggae interpretation built around a surface-level aesthetic. It comes from musicians with a deep understanding of the culture, rhythm, performance, and emotional character of the music.

“Love & Hate” ultimately succeeds because it feels respectful while still having its own personality. GrooveGalore MuziK takes a powerful composition, places it inside a distinctly Jamaican musical environment, and allows experienced musicians to give it new life. The result is soulful, rhythmic, guitar-driven, and emotionally honest, making it a strong crossover release for listeners who appreciate reggae, rock, soul, and music shaped by genuine musicianship.
