Stepping On Lego – Teen in the Eighties: Stepping On Lego, the brainchild of Irish multi-instrumentalist and producer Conor Waters, returns with a new single, Teen in the Eighties, out August 8th. The track arrives as the final teaser before Waters’ debut LP Wide Eyes, releasing on September 12th.
Driven by guitars, synths, and a chorus built to echo in your bones, Teen in the Eighties is a sharp, cinematic protest against the curated chaos of modern life. The track combines alt-pop immediacy with retro-futuristic textures, delivering a hook-heavy punchline to the digital age’s identity crisis.
“Teen in the Eighties” is a nostalgic alt-pop anthem that contrasts the raw simplicity of past youth with the digital chaos of today. Driven by soaring choruses and sharp lyrical commentary, the track captures the ache for authenticity in an age of curated illusions. It’s both a throwback and a protest, inviting listeners to reclaim something real amid the noise.” – Conor Waters
Lyrically, Waters calls out the disconnection of hyperconnectivity with lines like “We’re drowning in a cloud-based nightmare” and “Lost sight of all things human in a cyber storm.” The result is a track that’s a cathartic call for presence in an age of performative living.
BIOGRAPHY
Stepping On Lego is the sonic alias of Mayo native Conor Waters – a classically trained pianist turned alt-electronic shapeshifter. Influenced by acts like M83, Daft Punk, Muse, and Hans Zimmer, he threads lush synths, cinematic strings, and guitar-driven grit into soundscapes that blur genre lines. Outside of music, Waters works as a doctor in Dublin, a duality that adds both depth and precision to his compositions.
Teen in the Eighties is available to stream on all platforms from August 8th. The debut LP Wide Eyes follows on September 12th.
