Berkshire 5-piece Rila’s Edge return with the anthemic indie-rock fizzer, ‘Pimlico Road’ (November 20th).
Following the success of previous single ‘Deal’ which gained support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, Radio X, the new single produced by Max Helyer (Guitarist and songwriter for You Me At Six) alongside acclaimed duo Jordan Timms and Max Smith from Numen Studio (You Me At Six, VC Pines, and The Hunna) showcases the band’s flourishing potential.
‘Pimlico Road’ shines with an indie-rock intensity and a commercial accessibility through both its infectious melodies and relatable lyricism. Opening with bright strummed guitar and the urgent, expressive lead vocals, the track instantly gleams with a sense of energy and purpose. Punching drums and warm bass soon enters, adding to the already driving backdrop, pulling the track forward towards the chorus which culminates in an explosive, infectious and anthemic vocal line over a euphoric burst of fuzzy distorted guitar.
Bringing clever dips in pace and dynamics through the second verse, the arrangement highlighting the band’s tightness and rich musicality. Building once more through a melodic middle eight, ‘Pimlico Road’ closes with a climactic and explosive final chorus.
Speaking about the track, Ollie from the band explains: “Pimlico Road began as a voice note from my friend Rob Jones, guitar tech for artists like Miles Kane and Sea Girls. Rob is an incredible writer but without his own band, he often sends me song ideas—just a verse and chorus—from tour buses and greenrooms, and I flesh them out into demos. For this track, I was thinking about how cities like London can feel either magical or lonely, depending on who you’re with.
Inspired by bands like Cage the Elephant and Smashing Pumpkins, we aimed for a loose, fuzzy vibe. Our producers Max Smith and Jordan Timms invited Max Helyer from You Me At Six to help produce the track, which was surreal since I grew up with a poster of his band on my wall. Using his guitars and pedals massively elevated the sound quality, and his recording experience opened up new possibilities for the track. His energy made the process feel fresh and inspiring for all of us.”
Having built hype and anticipation with airplay from BBC Radio 1, Radio X and consistent support from BBC Introducing Oxford and Berkshire as well as press support from the likes of Clash, Notion, Ones To Watch, When The Horn Blows and Gigwise, Rila’s Edge have already established themselves as one to watch. A renowned live band, the quintet have sold out headline shows across the UK and opened for the likes of Little Comets, The Hubbards, Courting, Sad Boys Club, Make Friends, The Zangwills, and Delights.
