Independent pop artist The Kountess unveils her debut EP, INIT, a five-track project that marks the beginning of a deeply personal and imaginative new chapter. Blending cinematic pop, electro-pop, and fantasy-inspired production with heartfelt storytelling, the EP explores identity, vulnerability, and the many versions of ourselves we discover along life’s journey.
For The Kountess, INIT is more than a debut release. It represents a period of reflection and personal transformation.
“This was the year that I started asking questions: Who am I? As an artist, as a person?” she explains. “I wanted to step away from the noise, disconnect from outside opinions, and really listen to myself. It became a journey of discovering every version of who I am.”
The title INIT symbolizes a new beginning, much like activating something that has always existed beneath the surface. Throughout the EP, The Kountess embraces the complexity of being human, recognizing that confidence and uncertainty, strength and vulnerability, joy and sadness can all exist at the same time.
Inspired by artists such as Ariana Grande, SZA, Tove Lo, and Lady Gaga, The Kountess has created a sound that combines modern pop with cinematic world-building. Since releasing her first singles in 2023 and earning International Songwriting Competition semifinalist recognition for “The Light” and “Independent,” she has continued developing a distinctive artistic voice rooted in honesty, imagination, and emotional expression.
The EP opens with “intro,” an orchestral and atmospheric piece inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Layered with ticking clocks and dark fantasy influences, it captures the feeling of stepping into an unknown world where self-discovery begins.
Previously released single “Lucky Charm” follows with infectious melodies, trap-influenced rhythms, and lush strings, capturing the excitement and vulnerability that accompany falling deeply for someone.
On “For Life,” The Kountess shifts into a more intimate space, reflecting on those rare moments when love feels timeless. The song asks a simple but meaningful question: Are you for life?
The emotional center of the EP arrives with “anything,” a reflective track about breaking free from self-imposed limitations. It encourages listeners to let go of rigid expectations and remain open to becoming someone they never imagined possible.
Closing the project is “oh my love,” its most intimate offering. Inspired by personal journal entries, the song unfolds as a conversation between a present self weighed down by uncertainty and a future self offering reassurance, reminding listeners that growth often begins by showing ourselves compassion.
Produced by Emanuele Damiani, INIT showcases polished production that complements The Kountess’ introspective songwriting while allowing each track to build its own emotional landscape. The artwork and visual direction, created by Marios Tsoulxai, further expand the EP’s dreamlike aesthetic, reinforcing the immersive world The Kountess has carefully crafted.
