She was this incredibly ethereal, naturally beautiful person who made me feel giggly, nervous, and completely out of my element. I wanted to capture that sense of excitement and self-doubt all at once. I’ve always been open about my sexuality, finding both women and men attractive, and this song is about a time when I first really fancied a girl. The music for ‘Summer Crush’ felt like the perfect reflection of those fluttering feelings, so I knew I had to write a song to it.”

She continued, “The writing process was quick – I finished the song in just three days. The tune immediately came to me as soon as I heard the music, and I shaped the lyrics around the melody. The studio session was so much fun. We experimented with tons of harmonies and ad-libs, creating a sound that felt both playful and intimate.”

A particularly special touch in “Summer Crush” is a sample at the end of the song, taken from a lively conversation between Suki and her friends the night before the recording session. After a few too many glasses of wine, they discussed how incredible dating women can be – a moment Suki thought was too funny not to include. The spontaneous addition adds a layer of humour and authenticity to the track, further enhancing its light-hearted, yet meaningful, vibe.

“I was honestly a bit worried about the recording session,” Suki admits with a laugh. “I didn’t get much sleep after having too much to drink the night before, but thanks to a lot of coffee and a great team, we pulled it off. I think ‘Summer Crush’ might just be my favourite song I’ve made so far!”
