Larry Karpenko’s latest Christmas album, “Celebrate The King” released on 21 November 2025, is not your typical holiday record. From the very first track, it becomes clear that this is an album with its own personality, bold, imaginative, and unafraid to take risks. While the track titles might hint at tradition, the music itself is anything but predictable. Karpenko blends jazz, orchestral arrangements, modern synth textures, and soft pop sensibilities into a record that feels personal, creative, and alive.

The album opens with “Lullaby for a King”, a quiet, thoughtful introduction. Sweeping synths and gentle instrumentation immediately set an emotional tone, creating a sense of reverence without feeling heavy. It’s a perfect way to ease into the album, almost like stepping into a calm, festive moment before the celebrations begin.

“Away in a Manger” brings a touch of swing and subtle jazz influence. The percussion is playful, the horns add lift, and the vocals deliver confidence and warmth. It strikes a balance between the familiar and the fresh, giving a classic song a modern, lively touch.

“One Small Child” keeps the groove steady with a melody that lingers in your mind. It’s warm, approachable, and carries a comforting sense of nostalgia. Then “Mary, Did You Know?” surprises with dramatic, cinematic production. Large synths and expansive instrumentation give the track a bold, almost theatrical energy, making it one of the album’s most memorable moments.

“What Child Is This?” takes a smooth, jazzy turn. Relaxed drums and flowing instrumentation make it feel intimate, almost like a cozy night listening to a live performance. “You’re Here” offers reflective, meditative textures, and “Jesus, You’re Christmas” delivers heartfelt vocals layered over soft jazz arrangements, creating a warm and tender atmosphere.

The album continues to play with mood and texture. “Christmas Time Is Here” is soft and gentle, ideal for quiet reflection. “Carol of the Bells” introduces a darker, slightly eerie undertone, showing Karpenko’s willingness to experiment within the seasonal theme. “Hark! The Herald” then brings brightness and celebration back into the mix.

“Celebrate the King” bursts with energy and layered sound, capturing the excitement of the season without feeling overdone. The album closes with “Adore”, a serene, gentle track with gorgeous vocal harmonies that leave a sense of calm and closure.

What makes this album stand out is its refusal to stick to a single style or mood. Every track has its own identity, yet the whole album is tied together by a sense of seasonal warmth and creative vision. Larry Karpenko has delivered a Christmas album that surprises, delights, and feels genuine, perfect for listeners who want something familiar but also new and imaginative.
