Yorkshire-based singer-songwriter Kier returns with “Twenty Something,” a candid and catchy new single about the uncertainty, pressure and humour of finding your way through your twenties.
There is a strange point in your twenties when it feels like everyone else has figured life out except you. Friends are getting married, changing careers, buying houses or hitting milestones, while you are still wondering what you are actually supposed to be doing. That feeling is at the heart of Kier’s new single, “Twenty Something.”
Honest, conversational and self-aware, the song takes a light-hearted look at the pressure that can come with growing up without pretending that everything has to make sense. It is the kind of song that can make you laugh at your own situation while also making you realise that you are probably not the only person feeling this way.
Musically, “Twenty Something” marks an exciting step forward for Kier. While her earlier work established her within the UK country and Americana scene, the new single moves further into intimate singer-songwriter pop and alternative pop, bringing a polished, infectious sound to the storytelling that has always been central to her music.
For Kier, the change feels more like an evolution than a reinvention.
“I think your twenties are sold to you as this exciting time where everything starts falling into place, but for a lot of us it feels like the polar opposite. Everyone seems to be reaching different milestones at different times, and it becomes really easy to feel like you’re falling behind. ‘Twenty Something’ came from wanting to write about that honestly.”
The release comes after three years of independent growth for Kier. During that time, she has performed at festivals including Tramlines and C2C London, supported artists such as Lucy Spraggan and received support from BBC Radio 1.
Her debut album, Welcome To The Strange Life, also made an immediate impression, reaching the Top Three on iTunes alongside releases from Hozier and Sam Fender and introducing Kier as an artist with a clear focus on storytelling.
She has continued to build on that foundation through an increasingly busy live schedule. In 2025 alone, Kier played more than 80 shows, taking her music to audiences through touring, festivals and support slots while simultaneously developing her second studio album between Camden and Newark.
“Twenty Something” now signals the next stage of that journey. There is a greater sense of intimacy in the new material, but the storytelling remains firmly at its centre. The result is music that feels personal without becoming overly serious, and pop-driven without losing the character that has defined Kier from the beginning.
The single is the second release from her forthcoming album, offering another glimpse into the direction of the record ahead of its official announcement in early 2027.
For anyone currently trying to work out what they are doing with their life, “Twenty Something” might feel less like a lecture and more like a friend admitting, “Yeah, I’m figuring it out too.”
