Iboomz today unveils his highly anticipated debut EP ZIDATIFE, a vibrant six-track Afro-fusion project that blends emotional depth with infectious rhythms, created entirely on home soil in Nigeria.

The title ZIDATIFE carries profound dual significance in the Igbo language. Literally meaning “to send down something,” it evokes the arrival of something fresh, positive, and useful from a higher source, whether help, strength, healing or blessings. In this project, that “something” is an abstract force wrapped in sound, channeled through the artist and delivered to the listener. The name also serves as a heartfelt homage to Iboomz’s late nine-year-old cousin, a vibrant, energetic, and talented young girl full of life who sadly passed away from asthma a few years ago. The EP stands as a touching tribute to her memory and the enduring power of her name.

Work on ZIDATIFE began almost a year ago, in April 2025, when Iboomz created the first beat for the track Yanga. Every beat on the project felt revealed or “sent down,” moving from mind to memory, then to software, and finally into fully realized songs. The collection captures emotions born from a deeply personal place—grief, struggle, fear, hope, strength and power, vividly reflected in the cover art through a dynamic splash of colours, each representing a different emotion.

All songs were conceived, recorded and finalised in Apo Hills, Abuja, making ZIDATIFE a truly 100% home-grown project. The recording process proved efficient; with beats already produced and lyrics fully written in advance, the team captured the entire EP in just eight hours spread across two days at Reminda Beats Studio in Faplins Estate, Abuja. Only one track required a re-record, resulting in a smooth and focused creative session.

Speaking through the music itself, Iboomz aims for listeners to first enjoy the project, then connect with it on a personal level, ultimately interpreting it as something fresh, empowering and creatively uplifting. At its core, ZIDATIFE seeks to empower anyone facing life’s inevitable struggles, reminding listeners of the collective challenges we all share. Music, for Iboomz, has always been a powerful medium for inspiration, conveying messages of power, hope and identity.

Iboomz began playing guitar in 2008 and wrote his first song at the age of 17. For years his music stayed archived, not through lack of passion but due to a deliberate choice to wait until the right timing, skill and vision aligned. While building a successful career in solid minerals and metals trading, earning him the nickname “musician-businessman”, he made a pivotal shift in 2023 at the age of 30. He taught himself music production and fully committed to his artistry. Within a year he had established his own studio, gaining complete creative control as producer, songwriter and artist.

His sound sits at the intersection of intellectual rap and Afro-fusion, delivered over Afrobeat-driven rhythms that invite listeners to dance, reflect and dance again. Drawing inspiration from the West African griot tradition, Iboomz acts as both storyteller and observer, using sound and spoken word to document experience, emotion and philosophy. As a producer, he skilfully fuses influences from jazz, country and indie music with rich Afro percussion, crafting a textured and distinctive sonic identity.

In 2025, Iboomz released a series of singles including Afro Country, Amina, Lagos–Tokyo, Runaway Soldier and Broken, each showcasing different facets of his evolving sound. His stage name, Iboomz (pronounced i–boomz), originates from a childhood nickname that has remained with him into adulthood, symbolising both familiarity and personal identity.

Influences

FELA, Kendrick Lamar, Asake, Coldplay, A Tribe Called Quest
