With a name given by her sister, Tenaj (Janet spelled backwards) is a blend of creativity and rebellion. Her latest work, “Be as I Am Metamorphosis,” showcases her refusal to be confined by norms, drawing inspiration from her journey of self-discovery and transformation.
Known for her experimental style and bold individuality, Tenaj has made significant strides in her career, including winning the Hollywood Music in Media Award for best EDM song. Who is Tenaj?
My sister gave me the artist name Tenaj which is Janet backwards. Tenaj is an Artist with no limitations.
What inspired you to write ‘Be as I Am Metamorphosis’?
I’m a rebel inside of me and I don’t like no one telling me what I can and can’t do or be. The meaning: “I will be as I am “I named the “Metamorphosis” because the track it’s a remix. The perfect meaning “transformation” (Metamorphosis).
How do you think you differ from other artists?
I just go for it. I like to be experimental.Some artist are scared to take risks. They don’t have their own Identity. That’s why we see a lot
of similar artists.
Tell me about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career?
When I won the first Hollywood Music in Media Award for best EDM song. This award
means a lot to me.
Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?
I have worked with various very talented up and coming artist/producers. My current projects have been with the famous Myah
Marie best known for her Britney Spears Background vocals and she’s an amazing songwriter as well also I have been working with Austin Leeds who has worked with Tiesto / Avicii and many
others. Soon to come a collaboration with the Billboard top 10 charting duo Vessbroz.
If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
I would say Lady Gaga or Rihanna. If I could choose a Dj then Don Diablo. Any of you call me I’m ready.
What are your hobbies?
I love to play with my 2 Chihuahuas. Go for a hike or just chill
watching TV. Love the Kardashians.
How long have you been making music?
I have been in the artist world since I’m a baby. I started to dance since I can walk. In my teenage years singing became my priority.
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t chase the labels/Managers they will come looking for you ( Dj Quick) At a very young age DJ Quick asked me why are you making music? Is it for the Glitz/Fame or the Art? At first I looked at him and “I’m like all of it daaa”. Soon after I analyzed what he meant was, If you want to make it in this industry focus on been the best artist and stop chasing
(Labels/ Manager/fame) because you will give up. If you are an amazing artist people will find you. Been a passionate artist will give you the straingh to keep it pushing even when things are ruff. This has been with me since then and I focus on trying to be the best authentic artist I can be.
If you had one message to give to your fans what will it be?
I would say I love you all. I appreciate you all. You are not invisible to me and I will give you all of me. Dreams do come true and never give up.
