Can you tell us about your journey as an indie musician?
My granddaddy always wanted to be a country music singer. He I started singing when I was 8 years old. I got my start performing in front of my grandparents’ roadside farmer’s market. When noticed that I had real talent he got me some gigs at the local country bars. Later on, we decided to go to Nashville to record my first album and started shopping it all over town to different record labels. We thought getting a record deal would be simple, we were so wrong. After several years of that we decided to release the music independently.
What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
I was inspired to sing by my father and grandfather. So, it was only natural that I would gravitate to music as well. I love to create things, and I love performing.
How would you describe your unique style and sound as an artist?
My music is a mix of traditional country music with some blues/bluegrass elements. I talk about real life stories and try to evoke emotion. I call it mountain soul.
What sets you apart from other musicians?
I think my look and my tone set me apart from what is out there right now. When you listen to an Adrianna Freeman track you will see, no one in country music sounds like me.
Could you share some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as an indie musician and how you overcame them?
Some of the challenges have been trying to garner support for artist like me in Country. Things were different when I started on this path. I mean, it was not easy to get my music in front of people and to be taken seriously. I think the hardest thing I have had to overcome was changing the perception of what country music is supposed to look like in the minds of others. I was called names and not treated very well early on. I was able to over come that by having the power of the three P’s P. “Patience”, “Persistence”, and “Performance”. Slowly I started to build creditability with Country Music Fans, Radio, and yes even Music Row.
What is your creative process like?
I don’t really have a process, I would say.
How do you approach songwriting and composing music?
I don’t need much to create. Just something to write with, a guitar to strum, and something that inspires me or a situation that I encounter that I just want to say something about.
Are there any particular themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music?
My music comes from the heart and real-life experiences. I like to write songs about stories. My songs usually has a message in it.
What inspires your lyrics?
I am inspired by the people and things around me. I like to talk about things that matter but I also like to make music that resonates with my fans and something that everybody regardless of where they come from can relate to.
What are your long-term goals as an indie musician?
I just want to continue to be able to create the music I love. I would like to partner with a major touring artist to get my music to a wider audience.
Where do you see yourself and your music in the next few years?
I see myself releasing my next album, hoping to continue to build my brand on social media. Today it is easier to get your music out to a wider audience. I have the determination to get my songs out to the world and that’s exactly what I plan to do.
