Camryn Quinlan – Hourglass: New York based newcomer Camryn Quinlan shares the debut single ‘Hourglass’ (September 13th). Having built a strong following (219k on instagram, 46k on Tik Tok) gigging across her home city, the 17-year-old singer-songwriter showcases her depth of talent with introspective and timeless songwriting on ‘Hourglass’, offering a first taste of her forthcoming debut EP, ‘If We’re Being Honest’.
Produced by Baldvin Hlynsson, the new single showcases the introspective, heartfelt songwriting which stylises Camryn Quinlan’s sound. Built around a warming soundscape of muted piano and beautifully placed backing vocals, the instrumentation creates a pillowy, warming backing for Quinlan’s delicate, silky lead vocal. Gradually introducing strummed acoustic guitar into its radiant chorus, the track starts a slow build with layers of strings, synth, guitar, bass and driving drums pull the track forward with a sense of purpose before ending on a poignant last chorus.
Youthful and accessible with storytelling which reflects on real life experiences, ‘Hourglass’ thematically is a reflection on the fleeting nature of young love. Camryn explains:
“‘Hourglass’ was inspired by a common high school heartbreak: long distance. Going into a relationship knowing how it would end. There felt like an expiration date, or an hourglass that was slowly running out a clock.
This EP is a bunch of different narrations of being in a relationship of any kind. Most of this EP is raw and true feelings that I experienced. Growing up is hard, and heartbreak is a big part of it.”
The upcoming EP If We’re Being Honest promises a collection of songs that are both lyrically profound and musically rich as Camryn showcases her strikingly complete sound, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of artists including Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, and Chappell Roan.
