Having made a name for herself with songwriting that doesn’t shy away from tough topics, Lucy Lane has been lauded for her strikingly honest and impactful tracks. ‘I Have Been My Mother’s Pain’ is no exception, tackling the raw emotions of Lucy confronting her childhood trauma. Produced by and written alongside acclaimed artist in their own right Lleo (support across BBC Radio 1: Future Pop, Introducing Rock & Future Alternative, live sets at BLUDFEST among others), the single blends its emotive, relatable, and infectious pop songwriting with striking distorted guitar tones and expansive production. A growing alt-rock arrangement of thick guitar tones and punching drums creates a driving backdrop for Lane’s soaring lead vocals.

The single highlights the blend of commercial elements and high-octane rock undertones which have seen Lane gain acclaim to date, ultimately sitting somewhere between the pop feel of Pink and Kelly Clarkson, and Evanescence.

Speaking about the single, Lucy explains, “I Have Been My Mother’s Pain’ is the most cathartic song I’ve ever written – like cutting out a tumor. Its raw, confessional lyrics pull me back to the most traumatic night of my childhood, while the dark, moody production wraps the listener in the pain and rage that drive the song to its dramatic end. There’s a subtle thread of 2000s nostalgia running through it, with echoes of Avril Lavigne’s Nobody’s Home, Green Day’s Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Pink’s Family Portrait, and Christina Aguilera’s I’m Ok shaping its emotional DNA.

At its core, the song explores what it means to carry someone else’s pain as if it were your own – and how it feels to release it. In the music video, we step into the dollhouse – the symbol of the perfect suburban home – confront the demons inside, and burn it down. Like I said: cathartic.”

Energetic, playful, and full of power, her live shows are gaining notoriety across London’s music scene, with performances at iconic grassroots venues like The Troubadour and Paper Dress Vintage, as well as opening for Tally Spear, Lea G among others.
