Hollywood’s most glamorous night returned in style with the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Hiroyuki Sanada made history as the first Japanese actor to win Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama, and Anna Sawai became the first actress of Asian descent to take home the Best Actress award in a drama category. Director Frederick E. O. Toye also snagged the Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series for the episode Crimson Sky.
But Shogun wasn’t the only show that made waves. Fans of The Bear celebrated as Jeremy Allen White won his second consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy. However, in a surprising twist, Hacks edged out The Bear to win Outstanding Comedy Series, leaving the audience buzzing.
Meanwhile, Netflix’s eerie limited series Baby Reindeer collected several awards, including a rare double win for creator Richard Gadd in both writing and acting. In another standout moment, Jodie Foster finally won her first-ever Emmy for her powerful performance in True Detective: Night Country, leading to a standing ovation from the crowd.
