Having successfully released her powerful anthem ‘Superwoman’ fast rising Spanish sensation songstress Maria Moss, who is gradually taking the world by storm, joined us on today’s episode of Spinex Music interview where the workaholic songstress shared a detailed information with us about her new single ‘superwomam’, her forthcoming projects and her music career in general.

However, Maria recently released a new song titled ‘Superwoman’ a pop anthem that gives empowerment, strength and energy. The song talks about how strong, resilient, and great women are.Prior to now, Maria Moss released a Spanish song titled ‘Viva La Vida’, that has racked up over 100,000 streams on all digital platforms. Her sound is a cool blend of pop and Latin, taking inspiration from her hometown of Tarragona and the bright lights of her current residency London to achieve the infused rhythm.

Maria has tasted great success within the industry, having recently coached musical legend Cher in Spanish, who credited her as a “great teacher and adorable”. Check out the interview below and be sure to stream ‘Superwoman’ beneath afterwards.

STREAM ‘SUPERWOMAN’ BY MARIA MOSS BELOW

What inspired your new single ‘Superwoman’?

I wanted to write an empowering anthem that women can listen to when they need an “extra push”; something to give them positive energy every morning. Something to listen to when they are low or high, when they need the motivation to do exercise or to sing out loud in the shower or in the car.

When I started writing the song my mother came to my mind. Many people have their mother as a reference and I am one of them. My mother is kind, cheerful and very hard-working and of course, I am very proud of her. All the women around me inspired me too. I am so lucky I have so many special women around me.

I am very proud to be a woman and I have always wanted to put out a song dedicated to women. Women have always had a very important role in society that has not been recognized historically. Women are synonymous with life, they are an example of intelligence and strength. Today, women enjoy independence and autonomy although they are in a situation of inequality. This song addresses them to give them strength.

‘Superwoman’ is an anthemic song that celebrates women around the world and pays tribute to them.

All women are superwomen, they just need to remember it. Women, often invisible, constantly achieve things thanks to their intelligence, courage and determination. They are empathetic and perseverant and deserve to be recognized for their role in society and their achievements.

The music video, directed by Francesc Molina, was made in Tarragona, Spain. Claudia Cobas was in charge of the art direction. Five very different women are the protagonists of the music video as we wanted to represent all women in the world.

Shakira, Rihanna, Dua Lipa and Christina Aguilera are some of your main musical inspirations. Who amongst these artists would you like to collaborate with if given the opportunity?

I have so many musical inspirations, it’s impossible to list them all here but I also love Rosalía, Billie Eilish, Sia, Pink, Demi Lovato, Diplo, Major Lazer, Anne-Marie, etc. I would love to collaborate with them all! I also admire Cher, and I had the opportunity to work with her as a vocal/pronunciation coach while we were working on her last single “Chiquitita”. I ended up recording backing vocals for the track too.  It was such an amazing experience, she is great! Obviously, I’d love to collaborate with her too.

What has been the most touching or amazing moment that you’ve experienced as an artist?

My songs tend to send messages of love, empowerment, strength and positive energy. It is so touching when people contact me telling me that my music has made them happier or empowered, or they tell me that they had a rough day and they were feeling much better because they listened to my songs. It’s great when people tell me that they play my music in the morning to give them energy, or they play it when they run or do workouts, etc. It makes me very happy that my songs help people in some way.

I am the happiest person in the world when I am performing and I can hear they are singing along. I also love it when they come to talk to me after concerts.

How do you seek out opportunities as an artist?

I am very active, I am always doing things, writing recording, making videos, researching!

How was the experience like performing at 02 Shepherds Bush Empire and Proud Camden?

It was incredible! Performing at such emblematic venues like the 02 Shepherds Bush Empire and Proud Camden is a dream come true.  I will always hold those memories close to my heart because it all started in London. I moved here to work on my music, develop my sound, collaborate with other artists and DJs and perform live. I have been able to perform in the USA, Spain and the UK but performing at the 02 Shepherds Bush made me feel in a special way. I hope I perform there in the near future again.

‘Viva La Vida’, has racked up over 100,000 streams on digital platforms. How do you feel about that?

I felt very well! It was the first time I got so many streams so it was a dream come true. “Viva La Vida” is a Spanglish song that I made with Marco Dalla Villa, it talks about living life without regrets. Then, I released “Gold”, a song that talks about loving yourself and having the strength to follow your dreams. That song did pretty well too! “Nah”, my last release before “Superwoman”, is a song that talks about picking yourself up after a breakup and not allowing toxic relationships to come back into your life. They both did very well on Youtube, “Nah” has around 100k on the platform.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in music? What motivated or inspired you?

I think pop music inspired me. Pop music has always been a huge part of my life. Popular Music is fresh, catchy, and takes elements from other genres. I have always sung and danced, so I have always liked songs that had engaging rhythms to dance to and songs featuring strong vocals. That is the reason why as a kid I would listen to pop, but also hip-hop, and Soul. For example, I would listen to The Spice Girls, Aqua, Ciara, Destiny’s Child, Britney Spears, and The Black Eyed Peas, but I would also listen to Motown Artists, Michael Jackson, Cher, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Linkin Park, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Pink. Even though I listened to Spanish pop, English and American pop have been very important in my life. I have always listened to blues, jazz, and Latin genres too. I started writing music in English when I was a teenager.

My parents tell me I started singing and dancing around the house since I was a toddler. I remember telling everyone I wanted to be a singer and a dancer when I was 3 years old.  My parents, of course, did not believe me at that time until I started working professionally as a session singer when I was 16 years old. Everyone realized that that was my dream. At the age of 14, I won ¨The English Key¨ prize singing ¨When You Believe¨ by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston on Cantamania, a Catalan TV programme (Salou,TV3).

I first started developing myself as a musician and a singer. I wanted to make sure I knew music theory, ear training and had a good vocal technique so I attended Aula Musics (Liceu of Barcelona) to study the professional degree of jazz and blues, the Conservatoire of Tarragona to study classical music, Acción-Escena School of Actors of Madrid to study a professional course of Musical Theatre and BIMM London to study BA Creative Musicianship. While studying, I performed as a session singer and wrote music developing my sound. I also studied drama and dance (hip-hop, urban style, bellydancing, modern, ballet and jazz).

What’s next for you. Are you currently working on any single, EP or album?

I will release a new single very soon. Currently, I am working on a few collaborations with other DJs and artists and I am writing my album. It is all very exciting!

If you could blink your eyes and be in a favourite place right now, where would that place be?

I haven’t been able to travel this past year, traveling is one of my main passions and I really want to do it when the pandemic is over! If I could blick my eyes and be in my favorite place right now, I would probably be in Mexico or Colombia. I had such an amazing time when I was there!
