Some artists measure success by chart positions or streaming numbers. Colm Warren has built his career on something far more enduring: honesty. Every release feels like another chapter in a deeply personal story, written without compromise and performed with remarkable emotional conviction. With his latest single, Good Morning, Warren once again demonstrates why he has become one of Ireland’s most compelling independent singer-songwriters.

Long before embarking on his solo career, Warren made his name as the frontman of Belfast punk outfit The Twenty, where his energetic performances earned him a loyal following. After stepping away from music for almost a decade, he returned in 2020 with a completely reimagined artistic identity. Swapping the urgency of punk for cinematic arrangements and intimate songwriting, Warren quickly established himself as an artist unafraid to explore grief, hope, love, and the complexities of everyday life.

That fearless honesty has defined every release since. Songs such as Void, Shame, Choked, Just Me, and Truth showcased an artist willing to expose vulnerability rather than hide behind polished perfection. His work has earned recognition from BBC, RTÉ, Hot Press, Clash, and Rotate, while memorable performances alongside the RTÉ Concert Orchestra further cemented his reputation as an exceptional storyteller.

Now, Warren returns with what may be his most emotionally powerful recording yet. Released on 17 July, Good Morning was written for his close friend and longtime collaborator John Byrne following the heartbreaking loss of Byrne’s wife, Christine O’Gorman, in 2025. Rather than attempting to explain grief, the song simply sits alongside it, offering comfort, compassion, and quiet solidarity.

Byrne’s delicate piano performance forms the emotional centre of the recording, making the collaboration especially poignant given the personal circumstances surrounding its creation. Produced by Joe Egan, mixed and mastered by Aidan Cunningham, and accompanied by a beautifully filmed performance video by Mark Bennett, the single is understated yet deeply affecting.

Throughout his solo career, Warren has consistently resisted following industry trends or chasing commercial formulas. Instead, he continues to create music with patience, sincerity, and emotional depth, allowing each song to speak honestly about life’s most difficult moments.

With Good Morning, Colm Warren delivers not only a tribute to friendship and enduring love but also another reminder that some of the most powerful songs are those born from genuine human experience. It is a beautifully crafted release that speaks softly, yet leaves a lasting emotional impact.
