Alternative rock band Ychabods are back with their new EP, Message Through Meadows, a four-track release that blends psychedelia, 90s alternative rock, and gritty garage rock into a compelling exploration of memory, identity, and the forces that shape who we become.
The band was formed in 2022 when songwriter Mario Selecky reconnected with drummer Filip Paulo. What began as a collection of unfinished songs soon grew into a fully realised creative project. Following the release of their debut album, Ychabods expanded their lineup with bassist Lubos Duris and later guitarist and vocalist Martin Molnar, helping the group develop the eclectic and genre-blurring sound that now defines them.
Recorded between 2024 and 2025, Message Through Meadows showcases the band’s ability to balance personal reflection with broader social themes. Each of the EP’s four songs tells its own story while contributing to an overarching narrative about humanity, personal freedom, and self-awareness.
Opening track “Time Traveller” takes inspiration from Black Sabbath’s iconic “Iron Man” but approaches the concept from a more hopeful perspective. The song follows a mysterious figure existing outside of time, witnessing both humanity’s triumphs and failures and encouraging listeners to learn from the past in order to build a better future.
“Good Times” takes a more personal turn, focusing on the importance of appreciating the present. Drawing heavily from 90s alternative rock influences, the track reflects on finding joy and meaning even during uncertain times, delivering a message that feels both relatable and uplifting.
The EP’s most psychedelic offering, “Purple Man,” is inspired by the Marvel Comics villain known for his ability to manipulate minds. Referencing the complicated relationship between Purple Man and Jessica Jones, the song explores themes of control, resistance, and personal freedom through hypnotic arrangements and drum-driven instrumentation.
Closing track “Tzar’s Bloody Rodeo” delivers the EP’s strongest social commentary. Inspired by the raw energy of bands like The White Stripes, the garage rock anthem paints the picture of a powerful leader who thrives on conflict while remaining detached from the consequences of their actions. Through vivid imagery and sharp lyricism, the song questions authority and the dangers of power without accountability.
The EP was co-produced by Mario Selecky, Martin Molnar, and Robert “Brucky” Bruckmayer, who also handled mixing and mastering duties. A respected producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, Bruckmayer has worked on projects for Hans Zimmer’s Bleeding Fingers Music, Warner Chappell, and numerous international productions, bringing cohesion and depth to the EP’s diverse sonic landscape.
With Message Through Meadows, Ychabods continue to evolve as a band unafraid to experiment both musically and lyrically. The result is an adventurous and emotionally resonant release that invites listeners to reflect on the past, embrace the present, and question the forces that influence the world around them.
