Dani Ivory returns with “Get Through,” a raw, heartfelt anthem about choosing your partner even when love is complicated, heavy, and far from perfect. It captures a deeply specific, yet universally felt emotion: standing beside the person you love when they’re struggling, knowing there’s only so much you can do, but refusing to walk away anyway.
Ivory’s vocal hits with emotional force from the opening lines, immediately setting the tone with unflinching honesty: “I really want to write a love song / But I can’t seem to get it right / I really want to tell you I miss you / But you’re drunk out of your mind”
It’s a devastatingly real beginning. One that doesn’t romanticize the situation, but tells the truth as it is. From there, the song only deepens, as Ivory makes it clear that love, for her, isn’t conditional or convenient: “There’s no other way around it / We can’t hop, skip, or go backward / We looked our whole damn lives and found it…”
Even in the face of judgment from the outside world, she refuses to abandon the person she loves: “For sticking around and watching you drown / But if you go down, baby, I go down”
One of the most powerful moments comes when Ivory turns the lens inward, acknowledging her own flaws and contradictions with striking vulnerability: “And I wish I was stronger not to enable you, but I’m human too / I’m no better than you / I still choose you”
Rather than offering easy answers, “Get Through” embraces the messy reality of love, where devotion and doubt can exist side by side. It’s not about fixing someone; it’s about showing up, meeting each other halfway, and believing that together, there’s still a way forward.
Ivory has never shied away from honesty, and “Get Through” stands as one of her most emotionally courageous songs yet.
