Bristol-based indie-rockers Chasing Kites return with the reflective and intimate new single ‘Falling’ .
Produced by Sam Winfield at Studio 91 (Bring Me The Horizon, Amber Run), ‘Falling’ captures a heartfelt, emotive and delicate tone which contrasts against the driving energy of their previous material. Opening with atmospheric blue sky reverb soaked guitar and warming bass, the track sets a stripped and melancholic tone under lead vocalist Matt Donnelly’s tender delivery.
As the track gradually grows it introduces gentle drums under the understated yet radiantly catchy chorus vocal melody. Dipping into its middle eight, the track ends with a beautifully atmospheric, climactic final chorus.
Thematically, the track touches talks about the journey of finding true love as lead vocalist Matt Denelly explains:
“Falling was written in a 10 minute moment of infatuation, after deciding I was going to spend the rest of my life with my partner. Since its inception, the track (for me) has become more than that. It has become a reminder to not take the people around you for granted and to take every opportunity to remind them of how much they mean to you. It may not show the same level of classical lyrical prowess as some of our other tracks, but this one comes straight from the heart.”
Since forming in 2021, Chasing Kites has quickly established themselves as a powerful force in the UK music scene, with their sound drawing comparisons to The 1975, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and The Cure. Their music combines soaring 80s synth textures, dynamic hooks, and vivid storytelling, which has garnered praise from major media outlets such as BBC Bristol, Gigslutz, and RTE.
The band’s previous releases have been featured on prominent playlists and radio stations, including BBC Bristol and Bath Sounds. Also making their mark as a live band, Chasing Kites has supported acts such as The Lottery Winners, Adult Leisure, King-No-One, and Dea Matrona, and packed out headline shows. Named as a BBC Big New Sound, the group intertwine dynamic hooks, 80s synth textures and vivid narratives, capturing reflections on the stories of Donnelly’s youth. With echoes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Cure and The 1975, the band have already conjured an arena-ready sound at a tender age.
