According to John W. Gardner, “true happiness involves the full use of one’s power and talents.”. This great quote by John W. Gardne, is very much salient in the life of Entity, as this portrays the true nature of American multi-talented songstress Entity, who doubles to be a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. On today’s episode of Spinex Music interview, the ever-blazing singer fielded questions from us concerning her music career and her new single ‘How Did You Get In My Bed’. She went further to shade light on her forthcoming debut EP dubbed “Visions in Black”.

However, Entity is a pillar within her community, thriving off deep connections at her shows, and aiming to create a safe space where people feel free to express themselves. Currently attending ICON Collective in Los Angeles where she continues to hone her skills, ENTITY is constantly perfecting her artistry.. Check out the interview below and be sure to check out ‘How Did You Get In My Bed’ beneath.

STREAM ‘HOW DID YOU GET IN MY BED’ BELOW

You are currently attending ICON Collective a Los Angeles based college of music that teaches core technical skills. What impact do you think ICON Collective will have on your career?

Yes! I am and it’s honestly been such an experience so far. ICON Collective has such an impressive roster of alumni so I have no doubt that this school will positively impact my career. I am hoping that I continue to grow the skills that I already know as a producer, but of course, learn more that will allow my compositions to stand out from another artist’s. I truly believe that ICON will continue helping me develop my sound and allow me to focus in on what is unique about my brand. I am also extremely grateful for the relationships that I have started to build. All the instructors are very talented and knowledgeable and as a student, you have access to so much guidance and information. I value that so much in an education setting.

You are a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ, which shows that you are multi-talented. How were able to acquire all these skills?

Thank you for that compliment  I started singing when I was about 5 years old and ever since then, I carved a path out for myself. I was introduced to music theory at a young age by playing the clarinet and took an interest in guitar and piano. I taught myself both of those instruments and with that knowledge, I started songwriting. It wasn’t until 3 years ago, I was curious about EDM production and DJing. I then taught myself the basic skill set of DJing, downloaded Ableton and just started to mess around with different samples and chord progressions. I then realized how I want to continue being a one-woman-show and do everything myself since I know how to! It’s been a long journey, but it just reinforces the fact that my passion for music started just years after I was born and has no sign of stopping.

Can you tell us what or who inspired your new single ‘How Did You Get in My Bed’?

Well, I can’t give any names 😉 but, I will say that she was a very important person in my life at one point. She was my first everything – first love, heartbreak, intimate experience. I have a special place for her in my heart and always will. This song captures the night that we were reunited after no contact for 5 years. We drank a little too much and I snuck her into my bed for the night. This song tells the story on my thought process and how I was emotionally feeling that night leading into the next morning.

How long have you been in the music industry and when was your first song released?

I have been actively producing and releasing music for about 3 years now. I wouldn’t say that my early adolescence years I was really in the music industry, but, the project ENTITY is about 3 years old. My first song was this cute little instrumental called “Toy Piano.” You can still listen to it on Spotify! But it basically describes this one photograph of me when I was about 5 years old playing a toy piano. It’s pretty adorable I will say, but to me, that song means youth and innocence. It also symbolizes my first real release as a self-made artist, which is almost like an ode to my younger self.

What’s the story behind your stage name entity?

The significance behind my artist name was actually a pretty cool realization. I was logging into my computer one night and my friend was sitting next to me and noticed my login credentials were “NTD.” He turned to me and went, “are those your initials?” And I’m like “yeah!” and he goes, “You do realize that’s the word Entity right?” and ever since then, my artist identity was born. It’s my full name! Natalie Teresa Diaz – say it fast, it’s ENTITY.

What interests you the most as an artiste and what basically inspires your writing?

I’d say the things that inspire my writing the most are true life events. Things that have happened in my life or that I envision happening in my future. I want my songs to be relatable to others. I want my songs to be an answer, a relief, a shoulder to cry on for people. I used to do a lot of journal writing when I was a kid (and still do occasionally), but basically, when people hear my music, I want them to feel as though they are reading my diary. My songs will always be about something real and vulnerable.

Who are some of the artistes that you may wish to work with on any music project and why?

I grew up listening to a lot of pop/punk. I honestly still listen to that genre. I would love to dial in and collaborate with artists like Pierce the Veil, PVRIS, Hayley Williams, Lights, Bring Me The Horizon, and others that have influenced my love for music over the years.

Apart from music what other activities do you spend quality time on?

As of right now, I currently live and breathe music because of school and personal creative projects, but on my downtime, I like to engage in outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, swimming, biking, and longboarding. I also really love to read a good book especially if I’m sitting on a beach. I like to be with nature – it brings me peace and serenity.

Do you have any music project that you are currently working on that you may wish to share with us?

My debut EP “Visions in Black” will be releasing this year!!! I’d say late to early summer is when it’ll officially drop. I am just putting the final touches on it right now  I can’t wait for you all to hear it. It is based on a rough period in my life where I finally had to let go of someone that meant a lot to me (the same person that I wrote How Did You Get Into My Bed about). The relationship is toxic and it’s better that we are apart and living our lives separately, but man, was that a tough time for me. It was a wonderful opportunity to create art, in fact, I wrote the whole EP in about 2 months because of the roller-coaster of emotions I was feeling and the situations I was put in.

What advice do you have for those that look up to you as their role model?

Oh man, that makes me smile ear to ear knowing that there may be people who look up to me  The best advice I can give you is, if you are having trouble finding your passion or purpose in this world, look within and ask what your younger self wanted. It doesn’t have to be as dramatic as what you wanted to be when you grew up, but truly ask yourself, what would make your younger self proud. There was a period of my life where I completely dropped music as a whole. I didn’t write, sing, play instruments, nothing, and I was completely lost. I turned to things that I’m not proud of and I truly think it’s because I thought pursuing music was a silly dream. Thankfully, I overcame that and realized that music has all along been the thing that my soul aches for and I’ve known that ever since I was a little girl. The answers are within, all you have to do is listen. Love you all and I’m rooting for you
