Blue Capricorn and LOREN KOLE’s ‘honest’ Is a Delicate Exploration of Love, Loss and Vulnerability

On ‘honest’, experimental indie artist and producer Blue Capricorn joins forces with Dallas-based Cuban-American artist LOREN KOLE to explore the fragile territory between holding on and learning to let go. Released as the third track from Blue Capricorn’s second EP, when you come back, transcend me, the single is an intimate, atmospheric meditation on failed love, emotional uncertainty and the difficult process of accepting what cannot be repaired. Rather than treating heartbreak as a definitive ending, ‘honest’ explores the lingering attachments and unresolved feelings that make moving forward so complicated.

Sonically, ‘honest’ occupies a compelling space between indie pop, Latin indie and art pop, drawing its emotional weight from restraint rather than excess. Lush synths, delicate keys, atmospheric guitars and understated percussion establish a dreamy, almost suspended environment. The production feels carefully considered, allowing individual textures to breathe while maintaining a sense of quiet tension. Instead of overwhelming its central themes with dramatic instrumentation, the arrangement creates room for vulnerability, making the song’s emotional subtleties feel increasingly significant. Its cinematic qualities recall the atmospheric sensibilities of James Blake and BANKS, while its softer, dreamlike character shares an affinity with The Marías.

What makes ‘honest’ particularly compelling is its understanding that relationships rarely conclude as neatly as people might wish. Love can fail without immediately disappearing, leaving behind memories, expectations and the persistent desire to reconnect. The song’s emotional premise rests within this contradiction, acknowledging the difference between wanting someone and recognising that the relationship itself may no longer be sustainable. There is a quiet maturity in this perspective. Rather than assigning blame or searching for an easy resolution, Blue Capricorn and LOREN KOLE approach heartbreak as something to be understood, experienced and eventually accepted.

The collaboration is central to the single’s identity. Blue Capricorn, the project of Mexican-Argentine artist Rodrigo Caraballo-Marin, has built his musical world around introspection, experimental textures and emotionally charged soundscapes. LOREN KOLE’s dark, cinematic indie-pop sensibility complements that foundation, creating a meeting point between two artists who share an interest in music as an emotional experience. Their involvement gives ‘honest’ the feeling of a conversation rather than a solitary confession, reinforcing the universality of its themes. The vocal and instrumental contributions from both artists further connect the track’s intimate songwriting with its carefully layered sonic atmosphere.

The song’s extended development also informs its emotional depth. Written and reworked over approximately eighteen months, ‘honest’ reportedly transformed significantly from its original conception. That evolution mirrors the subject itself: understanding a failed relationship often requires time, distance and a willingness to confront uncomfortable truths. The collaboration helped shape an accessible musical atmosphere without sacrificing the experimental qualities that distinguish Blue Capricorn’s work.

‘honest’ succeeds through its balance of emotional directness and atmospheric subtlety. It does not attempt to resolve every contradiction or turn heartbreak into an uncomplicated lesson. Instead, it finds meaning in vulnerability, allowing uncertainty to remain part of the experience. As an introduction to when you come back, transcend me, the single establishes a reflective emotional landscape shaped by longing, nostalgia and self-discovery. Blue Capricorn and LOREN KOLE have created a thoughtful collaboration that finds beauty in the uncomfortable space between losing someone and finally learning to let them go.
