UK/NZ hip-hop artist Tru:FRAZ opens up about some of the most chaotic and difficult chapters of his life on his debut album, Sesh Fiend Confession Tape. Across 16 tracks, he explores addiction, partying, relationships, grief, mental struggles and self-reflection, bringing together dark humour and honest storytelling without trying to make every experience look pretty.
Rooted in underground UK hip-hop, the album moves between serious personal moments and the absurd situations that can come with living life on the edge. Rather than presenting a polished account of the past, Tru:FRAZ approaches the project as a collection of confessions, capturing the mistakes, memories and experiences that have shaped him.
At the centre of the album are three sides of the artist: Fraser, the person behind the music; Fraz, the artist who turns his experiences into something creative; and Frazzle, the character responsible for much of the chaos that eventually becomes material for his songs. The relationship between these different personalities gives the project room to move between vulnerability, self-awareness and humour.
Born and raised in England before moving to New Zealand, Tru:FRAZ describes himself as an English Kiwi. His musical influences range from Oasis and alternative rock to Eminem, The Notorious B.I.G. and Wu-Tang Clan. He later discovered the UK underground hip-hop scene through artists and collectives including The Four Owls, Task Force, Split Prophets and Contact Play, helping shape the sound and approach he brings to his own music.
His personal history also plays an important role in his songwriting. Tru:FRAZ moved to New Zealand partly to explore his identity and learn more about his father’s roots. His father died in a motorbike accident when he was seven, leaving memories that have stayed with him over the years.
One particularly vivid memory captures the kind of humour that runs through his recollections. He remembers watching his father perform the Haka at a wedding, only for his trousers to split halfway through. Rather than stopping, his father carried on. It is a small moment, but one that reflects how humour and difficult memories can exist alongside each other.
The album is also dedicated to Chloe, known to friends as Sploosh, whose influence helped inspire Tru:FRAZ to begin making music.

“She left a spark in me. This album was something I needed to make for myself, but I dedicate it to her. See you on the other side,” he says.
That personal connection adds another layer to a project already shaped by loss, reflection and the need to turn difficult experiences into something meaningful.
The album’s campaign centres on ‘MAD’, the focus track and one of the project’s more recent creations. Tru:FRAZ has also produced a music video for the song, with additional footage and visuals planned to support the release.
‘Where U Been?’ holds a different place in his journey as his first official single and his first experience properly editing a music video. Its visuals bring together footage filmed in Queenstown, New Zealand, beneath the M40 near Uxbridge and along the cliffs of Portugal. Meanwhile, ‘Letter To My Soul’ offers one of the album’s most personal moments, with Tru:FRAZ highlighting its final verse as a particularly emotional part of the writing process. His personal favourite is ‘Stress’.
The 16-track album opens with ‘Confessions’ and moves through songs including ‘27 Club’, ‘Benzodiazefraz’, ‘3AM’, ‘Devils Advocate’, ‘Painting Pictures’, ‘Self Medicate’ and ‘Down’, before closing with ‘Fraser’s Eulogy’ and ‘MAD’. Each track contributes to a wider picture of a period marked by highs, lows and the ongoing struggle to find balance.
Tru:FRAZ wrote the album, with mixing and mastering handled by DUX. Production comes from MANUEL, Lethal Needle, DUX, 3AM, Balance Cooper, Daga and Hidden Stash.
The search for balance is a recurring theme throughout the project. As Tru:FRAZ puts it, his phrase “detox to retox” sums up much of the contradiction behind his Sesh Fiend era, where attempts to get things under control could be followed by another round of chaos.
He also shares a thought that helps explain the album’s openness: “Everybody’s hiding something. I think we’re all just looking for someone we can show it to.”
It is an idea that connects the album’s personal stories to something broader. Beneath the humour and unpredictable moments are experiences many people understand, including the difficulty of facing your own mistakes and finding the courage to be honest about them.
Finishing Sesh Fiend Confession Tape is a milestone for Tru:FRAZ . Five years into his current musical journey, he has turned a turbulent period into a complete body of work that he can look back on with a sense of achievement.
“The biggest achievement for me personally has been getting this album finished and turning what was a pretty mad period of my life into an actual body of work that I’m proud of. Five years deep, but somehow I feel like I’m only just getting started,” he says.
Since returning to the UK from New Zealand at the end of 2025, Tru:FRAZ has been rebuilding his foundations and setting up Couch Records HQ again. He is also preparing to study Music Production and Sound Engineering at Point Blank Music School, with plans to develop his technical skills alongside his songwriting.
Further projects are already taking shape. An EP with his brother NO M!ND is in development, promising a more experimental and gritty sound. He also plans to work with Naphtali on a rap duo built around alter egos and character-driven storytelling.
Beyond recording, Tru:FRAZ hopes to return to event promotion, drawing on his experience helping organise Dubs In The Dungeon with the Deep Web crew in Queenstown. Those events brought together hip-hop, drum and bass, jungle and 140 music, providing a platform for local talent.
Although Sesh Fiend Confession Tape looks back on a particularly chaotic chapter, Tru:FRAZ sees it as the start of something bigger. His future work will continue to explore lyricism, perspective and storytelling while allowing more room for experimentation and new creative directions.
For now, the debut album stands as an introduction to an artist willing to confront the complicated parts of his story without losing his sense of humour. It is honest, unpredictable and personal, with plenty more material still waiting to be heard.
For Tru:FRAZ , this is not the end of the story. It is Chapter 1.
