Nigerian singer-songwriter De Gold releases his new single Devotion on 18th September 2026, an Afrobeat-rooted, Afrogospel-flavoured track built for early risers and those chasing something bigger.
Devotion began with no plan at all. During a session with his producer, sosickpro, the pair were simply playing through sounds when De Gold started humming harmonies over one particular beat. The producer moved on without hearing him, so De Gold asked him to go back, certain he had felt something on it. Rather than sit down to write, De Gold began freestyling about how he felt after returning from a trip that had cost him some personal things, including items he had to sell.
What started as an unplanned moment became something more. De Gold chose to finish the record himself, convinced that somewhere, someone needs to hear it. His advice to listeners is simple: give it time, and keep listening until it makes sense to you. For him, the song has already proved its worth. There were nights in the past when he struggled to sleep, and this track now brings him comfort.
At its heart, Devotion is a morning motivational song for the born hustlers, carrying a message to praise God every day, no matter what has happened. The steady konkon sound running through the beat has a special meaning for De Gold, recalling the masquerade tradition of his village, where the same rhythm is played during festive periods.
Ini-obong Cletus Echoi, known professionally as De Gold, is a singer-songwriter from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, born in the 1990s. Raised by his parents and the church figures who looked after him in childhood, he found music through the choir, first as a chorister and later as conductor. Leading a large choir sparked his love of pairing words that rhyme with musical notes, and he has been writing ever since.
