From early classical training to deeply personal contemporary songwriting, Nia Marie has built a musical identity rooted in emotional honesty, discipline, and storytelling. Born in Philadelphia and now based in Queens, New York, the singer songwriter has developed a sound shaped by soul, reflection, and lived experience, where expressive writing sits at the centre of everything she creates.
Music entered her life at an early age, beginning at just six years old with classical violin and piano training. That foundation gave her both technical precision and emotional awareness, two elements that continue to define her artistry today. By thirteen, songwriting had already become a natural extension of her expression, turning structured musical study into a more personal and intuitive creative outlet.
Her influences span generations, with echoes of Michael Jackson, Jill Scott, Alicia Keys, and Stevie Wonder all subtly reflected in her work. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, Nia continued refining her sound, blending modern pop and R&B with classic soul sensibilities. Since first introducing her music in 2017 with ‘Knocking’, she has released a series of singles and her debut EP Because You Said I Love You, a project that explored heartbreak, healing, and self discovery through a contemporary pop R&B lens. Along the way, she has also collaborated with artists including The Beetstreet Groove, Al von Staats, and Tom Charles.

Now, Nia Marie enters a new creative chapter with her latest single ‘Selfish’, a song written in the immediate emotional aftermath of a breakup. The track emerged naturally during a moment of vulnerability, transforming private emotion into something tender, melodic, and deeply expressive. It also continues her long standing creative partnership with producer Juan Arango, who handled production, mixing, and mastering. Since Nia moved to New York nearly seven years ago, the pair have developed a close musical understanding that has become central to her evolving sound.
Remarkably, ‘Selfish’ came together in just a few hours. During the writing process, Nia leaned on Juan and his wife for support, allowing emotion to flow freely into the music. Built around soft, clean guitar tones, the track unfolds gently as airy vocal layers drift into place, carrying heartfelt lyrics delivered with quiet intensity. Light percussion keeps a subtle forward motion, while a smooth groove gradually shapes the track’s emotional direction.
The result is a song that feels both intimate and expansive, balancing vulnerability with polished songwriting. Catchy yet deeply emotive, ‘Selfish’ stands as a powerful showcase of Nia Marie’s artistic growth, highlighting her ability to turn personal experience into universally resonant music. With her continued collaboration with Juan Arango, this latest release further strengthens a partnership that continues to shape her evolving sonic identity, leaving strong anticipation for what comes next.
