Colm Warren – Estranged: Colm Warren, the former frontman of acclaimed Belfast alt-punk band The Twenty, has unveiled his latest single, a powerful and expansive cover of the Guns N’ Roses epic, “Estranged.” With a runtime approaching 10 minutes, the track is a testament to the original’s scale while remaining true to Warren’s distinct artistic vision.
Following a period away from music “while wrestling for my soul,” Warren has re-emerged in recent years with a series of singles exploring difficult themes, all set to the unique soundtrack of stunning orchestral arrangements and his emotionally charged vocals. His recent work has received widespread acclaim from those who have stumbled across it, with his duet “Truth” (with Maeve Smyth) described as “spine-tinglingly intimate” by Hot Press. The track earned him an invitation to perform with Ireland’s RTE Concert Orchestra at the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
This latest single sees Warren take on a monumental rock anthem with his usual unaffected, authentic approach. It serves as a tribute and nod of gratitude to a song that has profoundly impacted him throughout his life, since he first heard it as a young teenager. The arrangement features the F.A.M.E.S. Macedonian Symphonic Orchestra, with orchestral arrangements by John Byrne, and includes multiple nods to Guns N’ Roses while carving out its own identity very much in keeping with Warren’s previous solo releases.
