London alt-pop artist CHINCHILLA is baring it all with the release of the video for her latest single, Avoidance. Directed by Claryn Chong, the visual dives into the emotional chaos that follows heartbreak and anxiety, portraying a powerful descent into vulnerability and self-reflection. Styled by Holly Wood and featuring designs from Keko Hainswheeler—best known for his work with icons like Madonna and Lady Gaga—the video is a striking extension of the song’s raw intensity.
Released on June 5, Avoidance was written in just 45 minutes during a moment of real emotional upheaval. CHINCHILLA shares that the song was born after receiving a triggering message on her way to a writing session. The experience sent her into an anxiety attack, and she channeled that energy directly into the music.
“‘Avoidance’ came from a really painful place,” she explains. “I was going through a breakup and got a message that hit me hard, right before I was supposed to write. I ended up having an anxiety attack, and it felt like falling backwards into this otherworldly space. That drop, that feeling in your stomach, became the heart of the song.”
Since the release, Avoidance has earned praise from outlets like CLASH, MTV, Dork, and Official Charts, marking another standout moment in CHINCHILLA’s growing career. The video arrives on the heels of three sold-out headline shows and a high-profile support slot on Justin Timberlake’s recent European stadium tour.
Looking ahead, CHINCHILLA will hit the road this fall for her own headline tour across Europe. She’s also set to support G Flip on their 2025 US tour. Presale tickets are available now, with general sales opening on Monday.
With Avoidance, CHINCHILLA shows once again that she’s not afraid to turn personal pain into bold, beautiful art.
