Rising trio Big Fear release the anticipated debut EP Career Day.Produced by Charlie Andrew (alt-J, Wolf Alice, David Gilmour), the upcoming five-track EP takes a journey through a vibrant and warped blend of alt-pop odyssey and indie urgency, laced with industrial synths, gritty live instrumentation, and biting wit.

Fronted by the nonbinary, asexual, and endlessly expressive Alice Edwards, along with multi-instrumentalists Jack Wilkinson, and Ben Crone, the trio craft sharp, unflinching narratives that dissect our tech-drenched, environmentally unraveling world. Quickly building a feverish hype with plays across national radio, editorial playlist support, sync placements, and sold-out live dates, the trio are riding a wave of critical acclaim as they build towards the release of their debut EP.

From the intense fuzzy bass and tight drums of ‘Culture Cannibal’ to the buoyant synth-led soundscapes of ‘Beautiful Hands’ and ‘Money’ to the sprawling, haunting soundscape of ‘Mildew’, the EP brings a varied sound palette of live instrumentation and dappled electronics under Edwards’ central, haunting, and whimsical lead vocals.

Talking about the EP, Edwards explains: “This EP is really a series of dialogues; each song has two figures moving the story forward- from the jailer of anxiety and the prisoner of the self in Mildew, the surgeon and the influencer in Money, to the fascist and the lover in Culture Cannibal. Each pair represents an issue affecting contemporary culture, the mental health crisis British youth face, the onslaught of unattainable beauty standards and those who seek to profit from them, and the unending cycle of extremist politics throughout history. All issues that loom, and seem hopeless for an individual to face alone.”

Big Fear have already landed major playlist support with features across Spotify editorials: New Music Friday UK, Peach, Fresh Finds Indie and Hot New Bands (cover artist), Apple Music editorials and gaining repeat plays on BBC 6 Music and Radio X, and coverage across tastemaker press including Clash, Notion and Atwood Magazine. Also landing a sync placement on C4’s Made In Chelsea, the band have quickly established themselves as one to watch. Also delivering chaotic, theatrical and glitter-streaked live performances, the band have demonstrated a unique and instantly recognisable flare.
