Manchester’s Rising Filmmaker Oluwafemi Adebayo Wins Freeform Forum’s Creative Fund

Last week marked a significant achievement for the rising Manchester-based filmmaker Oluwafemi Adebayo, who was proudly announced as the recipient of Freeform Forum’s £10,000 creative fund for his groundbreaking project, ‘Dollar Signs.’ This two-part music video not only captivates audiences visually but also extends its impact into the physical realm as a unique flipbook, exploring the profound message of staying true to one’s vision amidst adversity.

Centered around rapper Benjiiii TG, ‘Dollar Signs’ takes audiences on a mesmerizing journey through dream states, where the protagonist skillfully navigates and evades a myriad of obstacles. The £10,000 grant provided by Relentless will play a pivotal role in funding an upcoming launch event, where these innovative flipbooks will be available for purchase. Benjiiii TG is expected to grace the stage with a performance alongside a host of local talents, promising an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

A crucial element in Adebayo’s success story is the Freeform Forum Mentorship programme, which paired him with London director Tajana Tokyo. Through personalized 1-2-1 mentoring sessions, Adebayo refined and developed his vision, gaining invaluable insights into the industry. Reflecting on the experience, Ade expressed his elation, stating, “I’m so over the moon, not only to have been selected for the creative fund but also to have been a part of the Freeform Forum mentorship from the outset.” He emphasized that the program provided him with opportunities to learn from top-tier creatives, network, acquire new skills, and access funds, enabling him to push his creative boundaries even further.

The mentorship programme, launched in October 2023 in collaboration with UK arts organization Small Green Shoots, aims to break down barriers within the creative industries for young individuals. A striking statistic reveals that 1 in 5 Brits aged 18-30 express a desire to work in the music industry but believe challenges hinder their entry.

The Relentless mentorship scheme is part of the energy drink’s new platform, Freeform, designed to fuel the aspirations of the next generation of creators. In its inaugural year, the six-week program enlisted the guidance of south London rapper ENNY, J Hus producer TSB, and Burna Boy-approved photographer Elliot Hensford. Across production, photography, and filmmaking, the 11 mentees were expertly guided on their projects, culminating in Oluwafemi Adebayo’s well-deserved £10,000 grant win.
