R&B and soul duo, Velvet Rays, hailing from Houston, TX., is singer, songwriter and producer Jayson De Buyl and singer, songwriter, artist, producer, choreographer and dance teacher Jon Glenn. Joining musical forces in 2022, they are finally ready to release their first single, “Something Different”, on Dark Spark Music, dropping January 12, 2024.
Jayson says, “Our record, “Something Different” started out as a conversation about our dream girl, our ideal woman, someone we envisioned spending the rest of your days with. From that, our main goal was to encompass that new love feeling, finding a way to execute that in a manner that makes sense, breathes life and above it all, ensures our audience reciprocate that feeling too. It’s that feeling you get when you meet someone for the first time, when it’s all new and fresh. When we wrote the chorus, we wanted the listener to know from the beginning, this is what it should feel like when you find that special someone.”
Jon brings a lot of experience from having been in the industry longer and Jayson compliments that with his expertise on the technical side, his great eye and ear and engineering skills.
The Velvet Rays concept developed organically working at Jayson’s home studio. “When we sat down to write the first song,” Jon says, “it was smooth and easy, and the process felt right. After we did that one, we wrote and recorded another and another, then looked up and realized that we had three or four strong tunes, and maybe we should consider putting these out as a collaborative project.”
“Something Different” was recorded and pre-mixed at Jayson’s home studio. The final mix was done by Danny Jones (Immersive mix Dolby Atmos) and Daniel Fernando Gutierrez.
