The Comancheros, a three-piece country rock band, have recently released a single titled “The Day George Jones Died” paying homage to the legendary country singer George Jones. The release date of the single, April 26th, 2023, marks the 10-year anniversary of Jones’ death. The song, which is available for streaming, is a tribute to the man who influenced the band’s music and inspired their creative process.

Lead vocalist Tanner Jones sings a plea to bring George Jones back in the bridge of the song, “Some say that the King is gone/But give me one more song,” expressing the band’s wish to bring back the legend who was so vital to their musical foundation. The inspiration for the song came to Michael Cook, one of the band members, as he drove his old Chevy truck on the day Jones passed away. He found a spot called Spring Lake, where “Classic Country AM 1360” came in really clear, and listened to pure George Jones on repeat all day long. The memory moved him to tears and inspired the song that wrote itself in just 15 minutes.

The Comancheros are known for their energetic live performances and distinct sound, and have been touring and performing since 2015. They have shared the stage with big names such as Randy Rogers, The Cadillac Three, and Alabama, to name a few. The band’s catalog spans six years, two albums, and even includes highly-esteemed covers of some of their favorite songs. Their music is a testament to the modern-day cowboy lifestyle, heavy and western.

The band has become a regular on the infamous Whiskey Jam stage, where they bring rock n’ roll to the country music scene in Music City. They have also made appearances on CMT, The Academy of Country Music, Raised Rowdy, and more. The Comancheros are not only paving their way, but they are also marching to the beat of their own drum. They have even gone so far as to have their own mural and hot sauce, proving that their unique style and passion for music knows no bounds.

The release of “The Day George Jones Died” is a significant tribute to the legendary country singer, and the Comancheros’ unique sound and creative style make it a song worth listening to. It is a reminder that George Jones’ legacy lives on through his music, and the influence he had on others in the industry, including The Comancheros, will never be forgotten.
