Stream “Silva Lining” By Vimbai-Rose BelowVimbai-Rose, congratulations on the release of your highly anticipated EP, ‘Silva Lining.’ Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the title and the overall theme of the EP?
Ofcourse, my nephew Silva was born last year, at this time, it felt like everything I’ve been working towards in music for many years was starting to become my reality. I could finally see the silver lining. This project is about reflection and touching on themes about my past, present and future.
The lead track of the EP, ‘Colour In Grey,’ showcases a beautiful blend of R&B and neo-soul sounds. Can you walk us through the creative process behind this song and how it sets the tone for the rest of the
EP?
Yeah, colour in grey was the final track i wrote and recorded back in January. I actually found this beat on youtube by a producer called Mokart. I loved it the second I heard it and freestyled the hook. I’ve always wanted to write a track about what love means to me in a romantic relationship as I’ve never been in love or experienced anything close to it in its purest form (romantically). So I wrote from a place of what I see for myself and what many others desire in a time where ‘toxic love’ is glorified.
Your EP ‘Silva Lining’ is described as deepening your authenticity as a music artist. How do you infuse vulnerability and self-empowerment into your songs, and what message do you hope listeners take away
from the EP?
I’ve always written from a place of honesty, I don’t know any other way to write. As individuals, it’s easy for us to think that we’re the only ones experiencing certain hardships in life. I almost feel like it’s my calling to make the toughest moments sound beautiful, if atleast one person hears my music and feels like they can relate, I’ve done my job.The message I hope people take from this project is that there’s a silver lining in your story, even if you’re yet to see it.
You mentioned that the EP represents the light at the end of the tunnel. Can you elaborate on how this theme is reflected in the music and lyrics throughout the EP?
In ‘Talk n Listen’ I start off the track with “through the highs and lows, the lows and highs still come out the other side.” I found it important to set the tone that everything will be okay. ‘Colour In Grey’ is a love song and speaks about love in its purest form and wanting to be everything that your person needs. ‘You Tellin Me’ is more of a reflection on my journey and my frustrations towards being told “you’re going through difficulties because of the greatness on the other side.”
Although there may be truth to that statement, it’s hard to fully grasp when you’re in the thick of it. The final track on the project ‘Different Chapter’ is a very vulnerable snippet of my life story and how I grew up with my mum being ill and my dad dying when i was young. I found it important to write this song and be vulnerable because the grieving process never ends but you will be okay in due time.
What can listeners expect from your future musical endeavours, and how do you hope to continue evolving as an artist?
More honesty, more vulnerability and tapping into more genres outside of Neo-Soul and R&B. I also hope to collaborate with more artists this year.
The music industry is constantly evolving, especially with the rise of streaming platforms and social media. How do you approach marketing and promoting your music in this digital age?
I definitely utilise Instagram as that’s where most of my engagement comes from. I’ve also been making an effort to use Tiktok more but it’s hard because in this day and age, being a musician is also being a content creator by default. Overall, I make it my mission to engage with my audience as much as possible and continue building a community
As an artist, how do you balance staying true to your artistic vision while also being open to experimentation and growth?
I think being a student of the game and always being willing to learn and experience new things is important. You’re never too good. There’s always room to grow
