Charlotte Church Launches New Podcast, “Kicking Back with the Cardiffians”: Welsh singer-songwriter and pop icon Charlotte Church is diving into the world of podcasting with her latest project, “Kicking Back with the Cardiffians,” now available on BBC Sounds. This brand-new series promises a mix of laughter, candid conversations, and touching stories, focusing on themes like belonging, working-class identity, and family bonds.

The podcast features a dynamic lineup of guests, including Church’s own family members—parents, aunt, grandad, best friends, dance teacher, and even the local pub landlord. According to a BBC Studios press release, the podcast allows Charlotte and her guests to share life lessons, recount experiences still being processed, and dive into deep topics such as the secrets of a lasting marriage and personal resilience in tough times.

Listeners can expect a blend of mindful reflections and humorous anecdotes, including youthful escapades like sneaking into clubs. The stories shared on the podcast paint a rich picture of Cardiff, the city that has always been home to Church.

Adding a personal touch to the auditory experience, the podcast’s background music is composed by Charlotte and her husband, Jonathan Powell, a talented singer, songwriter, and producer. The music aims to encapsulate the essence of Cardiff, setting the perfect tone for the stories shared.

“Kicking Back with the Cardiffians” will run for a total of fifteen episodes, with the first two already available for streaming. New episodes are set to be released weekly, allowing listeners to tune in regularly to follow the engaging discussions.

Charlotte Church shared her excitement about the podcast, stating, “I grew up in a working-class household in Cardiff, and I feel fortunate to feel grounded in this city. There’s so much wisdom and beauty in my family’s stories, and I really wanted to explore where we feel like we most belong. It’s been a joy to begin capturing the stories of my favourite humans and I can’t wait to share the bits that are fit for broadcast.”

Rhian Roberts, BBC Commissioner for Podcasts, Formats, and Digital, added, “Listening to Charlotte and her family chat is a proper insight into the way life is lived and stories are told – with grace and plenty of hwyl, that’s Welsh for a sort of heartfelt energy. It’s a seat at a particularly special table and one which has been in the works for a while now so it’s fantastic to bring it to listeners on BBC Sounds.”
