Physical – Andro (Live Performance Video): ANDRO, chosen by PRS Foundations’ new platform POWER UP to boost the profiles of artists of colour in the UK music industry, returns with the infectious new single ‘Physical’, the second single to be taken from the hotly anticipated upcoming new three-track EP Conflict.
Co-written with Hannah Yadi (FLO, Josie Man, Friendly Fires, Beren Olivia and many more) and co-produced with Courage (aka Joe Carson known for his work with Lava La Rue, Niko B, Foxes, Tayo Sound and more), ‘Physical’ is ANDRO at his most impactful, dripping with an 80s pop warmth whilst packing emotional depth with hard-hitting lyricism and ANDRO’s ever silky vocal delivery.
Speaking about the moving story and strong message behind ‘Physical’, ANDRO explains: “The song is about when my parents used to fight and what that was like, watching and growing up with. The pain and trauma that it can carry through into adulthood and how it’s shaped me as a person, teaching me how to navigate my own platonic and romantic relationships and be the cycle breaker of my family.
Writing with Hannah (Yadi) is such a breath of fresh air. She gave me the room to say it how exactly I wanted to without compromising my style, approaching such a deep topic with sensitivity and passion and by adding her own unique flavour and lyricism. I told (Joe) Courage that I wanted to write a song that has a similar vibe, sonically, to ‘Where Do You Go’ by Yebba and Grace Carter’s ‘Why Her Not Me’.
He took my chorus idea I had on my iPhone (which is the same in the final track) and my music references above and he vibed it immediately, lay down the guitar melody and everything jelled so quickly, over the next several months, we threw production ideas back and forth and then Jared Anderson, a Grammy Nominated music wizard, mixed the track beautifully. And it was expertly mastered by Ed Woods.

This song is a very vulnerable topic, touching on domestic violence and family trauma. I want it to speak to everyone but especially those who are of the same socioeconomic demographic as me.”
Following a 7 year run as a part of acclaimed Mercury-nominated band JUNGLE, which saw him perform across the globe including headline slots at Alexandra Palace, Glastonbury Festival and Coachella as well as appearances across UK and US TV including Stephen Colbert Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers and BBC’s Later with Jools Holland, ANDRO has established himself as an excited up and coming solo artist in his own right.
With widespread press support from the likes of Wonderland, Clash, Earmilk, Atwood, Notion and TMRW Mag, as well as radio play from Reprezent and BBC Introducing (Introducing London’s Featured Artist Of the Week), ANDRO is well on his way to gaining the notoriety he deserves.
