Ron Chapman “Turn Away”

The compelling new video and “call to action” Single from Toronto singer/songwriter/filmmaker Ron Chapman’s debut CD As Worlds Collide (Current Records) is “Turn Away.” The new video for “Turn Away” is a combination of a live Havana performance at the renowned Fabrica De Arte Cubano by Ron and a large Cuban band. Mixed with historical stock footage, the video delivers a powerful universal message that blends a Canadian single/songwriter’s sensibility with Cuban horns, strings and percussion, including performances by the great Cuban trumpet player Julito Padron and famed Cuban percussionist Adel Gonzales, along with a top Havana horn and string section.

Ron began his career as owner and operator of legendary Toronto music club The Edge, which featured upcoming new wave artists of the time such as The Police, XTC and The B52s. while managing musical artists such as Eddie Schwartz, who wrote Pet Benatar’s hit single “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.” In 2014 Ron produced, filmed and directed the critically-acclaimed music documentary Who The F…Is Arthur Fogel, which featured Lady Gaga, U2, The Police and Rush, and was released in more than 42 countries, including HBO in Canada and Netflix US. His 2015 film, the award-winning and internationally well recieved The Poet of Havana, documented the life and career of Carlos Varela, and included musician Jackson Browne and actor Benicio del Toro, among others. Chapman’s latest film, The Forbidden Shore, is the most in-depth cultural/music feature documentary to ever come out of Cuba, with performances and interviews from over 40 top Cuban artists.

The album As Worlds Collide is a collection of songs by Ron Chapman, recorded at Noble Street Studios in Toronto and engineered by Juno award winner George Seara (Drake, Rhianna, Shawn Mendes) The Toronto sessions include guitarist Cam Macinnes, bassist Russ Boswell, drummer Mark Kelso, with backing vocals by Linda Luztono. The Havana sessions were recorded by award winning engineers Carlos Hevia and Delio Ferrer, and all the songs were mixed by internationally renowned producer Terry Brown (Rush, Jimi Hendrix, Blue Rodeo, Alannah Myles).
