Following the fracas that took place at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards night between celebrated dancehall acts Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, the two were invited by the police yesterday for a probe into the matter. After which both artists were taken into police custody for further investigations into the unfortunate incident. As at today afternoon, iChris(Myself) can vividly confirm the two are still held up in the police cells and their lawyers have already began legal proceedings for a possible bail to be granted. However, though the facts are quite glaring, both artists have not been charged with any legal suit yet, making it not too clear for now, who may or may not be convicted.
Meanwhile, the event organizers, Charter House in a recent press statement stated that, they have already reported the case to the police as a law abiding organization as they are. And Shatta Wale’s father, Mr. Charles Mensah Senior has also registered his displeasure by questioning the police’s decision to take his son into their custody arguing that, Shatta Wale was not the one brandishing a gun.
Now, to those who are yet learning about this controversial incident in question, this is a brevity of it.
Stonebwoy was announced winner of the coveted reggae/dancehall artist of the year and as he went on stage for the award presentation, Shatta Wale who was allegedly ‘unhappy’ about Stonebwoy’s victory over him, stormed the stage with his squad, disrupting the ongoing event and Stonebwoy’s victory moment. Which led to a brawl between his squad and that of Stonebwoy who were already on stage, Stonebwoy too was reported to have pulled out a gun but swiftly put it back. The incident brought the show to a standstill for nearly an hour, but continued later with Samini’s electrifying performance and calm was restored. However, two award categories, Artist of the year and Most popular song of the year were withheld following the incident.
