Ebony Reigns continues reign as Artist of the year, as Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy face the music.

An aftermath of the nearly bloody scuffle that marred the 2019 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is that the dancehall arch-rivals, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were dragged to face the consequences of their actions on VGMA night. First, the two were arrested and had to sp

end 24 hours in police custody, after which both were granted bail for an amount of GH¢ 50,000. The dancehall acts upon release were, arraigned before court on Monday during which they were both charged with Offensive conduct to Breach of Peace at the VGMA and Stonebwoy additionally charged with Display of a Weapon in a Public Place without permission, but both artists pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them and the case was adjourned to June 20.

Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale

Meanwhile, the organizers of the awards scheme, Charter House Ghana Ltd in a press conference held on Thursday, 23rd May, 2019 announced that Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have been banned indefinitely from the awards, making them ineligible for nominations, selections and performances at the VGMAs. The two awards that were withheld on the night, Artist of the year and Most popular song of the year stated by ace broadcaster and VGMA 2019 host, Kwame Sefa Kaye to have been won by both Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale were also nullified, adding that by implication the late Ebony Reigns who won the honour last year still holds the bragging right as the substantive Artist of the year.

Moreover, the awards won by both artists at the 20th VGMA have all been withdrawn, in view of which both artists are expected to immediately return their awards(plaques) to the organizers. However, Shatta Wale following the recent happenings took to his social media handles to announce his withdrawal from the awards scheme after allegedly taking an oath(as shown in his posted picture) never to partake in the awards in the future. He wrote:

“Upon sober reflections of events in recent times and having made broader consultations, I wish to announce that I will not be part of the Ghana Music Awards scheme going forward. God bless!,”
